Ty has over 25 years of leadership in small businesses and fast-growing startups. He has successfully scaled businesses from ideas to maturity. As an early employee at several startups, including Zipfizz and Tango Card, Ty learned operations and scaling while being creative and scrappy. When he joined Uber as part of their "Uber Everywhere" teams, he learned first hand what it takes to blitz-scale a business. The 4-person team passed state laws and negotiated with county governments to launch the states of Idaho, Alaska, and Montana. From there, Ty was the GM that launched DoorDash in the PNW and the COO of Wrench, a national mobile mechanic business. Finally, he joined another unicorn to operationally align its four insurance marketplace businesses at Assurance IQ.
Ty grew up in a tough but successful family business. This shaped his unique passion for understanding entrepreneurs and their journeys. Today, he channels this passion and experience into helping founders and executives find and develop the fortitude it takes to be amazing leaders and thrive in the chaos. He currently advises a few startups and coaches startup leaders to break barriers, whether that's to get unstuck or level up.
Ty specializes in guiding leaders through the critical inflection points of startup growth—from early market validation all the way to hyper-growth and even operational maturity. His hands-on experience launching markets, building cross-functional teams, and optimizing operations makes him an invaluable mentor for startups in retail, CPG, marketplace, mobility, and climate tech spaces.
